Tenure-track professorship pursuant to § 99 Para. 5 of the University Act (UG) “Digital Humanities with a focus on Museology”

In order to strengthen, expand and establish the current profile and to develop a virtual museum at the University of Graz, the appointment of this position in the field of artefact-oriented digital methods represents a commitment to further valorisation of this unique feature of the University of Graz.

 

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint at its Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities a

Tenure-track professorship pursuant to § 99 Para. 5 of the University Act (UG) “Digital Humanities with a focus on Museology”

(Filling to occur initially with a limited term of 6 years as Assistant Professor (f/m) with Qualification Agreement. Career goal is a transition to an open-ended employment relationship as Associate Professor (f/m); 40 hours per week; to be occupied in winter semester 2017/18)

The tenure-track professorship is to complement the existing competences in the areas of long-term archiving and digital scholarly editions in research and teaching with aspects of sustainable, digital processing and preservation of as well as access to cultural heritage. The focus lies on questions of digital representation and dissemination of non-textual cultural heritage objects. This includes, in particular, fields of research such as digital / virtual museums, metadata modeling of museum objects as well as the utilisation of these metadata for research and dissemination. Applications such as 3D digitisation or digital reconstructions are further domains within this area of research. An important task of the tenure-track professorship will be the development of a virtual museum at the University of Graz. The professorship should also involve research projects with other disciplines as well as centres and institutes both within and outside the Faculty to reflect the interdisciplinary character of the digital humanities. Existing collaborations should be cultivated and expanded, thus contributing to the creation of the research profile at the University of Graz. The tenure-track professorship can build on the existing infrastructure of the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ZIM) and existing cooperation structures with regional, national and international research and cultural heritage institutions. There will be the opportunity to contribute to the training of the future staff of such institutions in the context of the master’s programme "Digital Humanities", which is currently being constituted.

 

Professional qualifications

  • Doctorate or PhD (for example from the subjects of digital humanities, computer science, museology, archeology, art history, ethnology, history) with a focus on the application of computer-aided methods for the analysis, processing and presentation of cultural heritage objects.
  • Outstanding research performance in the scope of the tenure-track professorship (commensurate with academic age)
  • Concrete plan for a habilitation project in the fields of research described above
  • Multi-year, relevant professional experience at a research institution or in the cultural heritage sector
  • Very good english skills
  • Competences in the area of gender mainstreaming
  • Written statement of the candidate’s perception of university teaching
  • Teaching experience (desirable)
  • Experience in the procurement of third-party funding (desirable)
  • International experience after completion of the master's programme (desirable)

Classification

Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): B1 bzw. A2 with qualificational agreement

Minimum salary

The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and according to the classification scheme is EUR 50772.40 gross per year or EUR 60043.20 gross per year with qualificational agreement.
