Professor (f/m) of Stochastics

With its 4,100 employees and 32,000 students, the University of Graz provides an exciting and varied work environment. Due to our research and teaching competence we are a central institution for guaranteeing that Styria remains a research and education location.

The Institute for Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Graz comprises work-groups on algebra, inverse problems and imaging, optimisation and optimal control, applied analysis and scientific computing. Research and teaching of the institute are characterised by the special research programme MOBIS, two doctoral courses, various third-party projects as well as a centre for didactics of mathematics.  

 

The Institute for Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the Faculty of Natural Sciences is seeking to appoint a

Professor (f/m) of Stochastics

(40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date June 1st 2016 )

The incumbent represents the discipline "Stochastics" and combines application-oriented stochastic research directed towards natural, engineering or life-sciences with a solid knowledge in continuous stochastic analysis. Expertise in numerical implementation is desirable. The incumbent has the qualification and the motivation to build up a corresponding work-group. The professorship is equipped similar to a German W2-professorship. The professorship strengthens the research core area "Models and Simulation", the inter-university cooperation NAWI Graz and provides links to the existing key Projects of the Institute.

 

Requirements for employment

  • Completion of an appropriate university degree at a university in Austria or abroad
  • Habilitation or equivalent qualification in mathematics/stochastics
  • Excellent scientific qualification in research and teaching for the relevant subject and profile of the professorship
  • Subject-specific work experience abroad after Master's degree
  • Competence in subject-specific project acquisition
  • Gender mainstreaming competence

The candidate is expected to demonstrate his/her educational and didactic skills. Teaching duties in stochastics/statistics on bachelor/secondary school teacher accreditation programme/master/doctoral level will have to be covered. A qualitatively excellent publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals of the profiled research areas relative to the academic age, that mirrors the research profile, is required as well as competence in the acquisition of third-party funding. Experience in teaching and supervision of students is desired.  

 

Classification

Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): A1

Minimum salary

The minimum salary according to the classification scheme of the collective agreement is EUR 66.953,60 gross per year (14 monthly salaries). Salary subject to negotiation.
